CommUNITY Giving Outreach: Ice Cream Social at Pecan Hill! Sunday, July 16 after Church (12:30 p.m.)
In Collaboration with Wings of Light and The Awakening Spiritual Community!
Join us in some community outreach! Pecan Hill is a small senior living facility for residents 62 years of age or older who are living on a fixed income. You may be familiar with our Christmas Sharing Party which we host each year on the Pecan Hill campus, just down the street from Unity of SA on Lawndale.
Our outreach to these neighbors is one of the many ways we live our core values of Loving, Transforming, Empowering, Community, and Welcoming. So, this year we will be sharing our traditional Ice Cream Social with them!
This project is a collaboration with other New Thought communities. We expect volunteers from Wings of Light and The Awakening Spiritual Community to join us! Wings of Light is a service organization established by Michelle Mullady Intuitive Living. The Awakening Spiritual Community is the spiritual community that Rev. Erika Forbes serves!
HEB has agreed to donate the ice cream, but we will need you to help to serve and socialize with our friends and neighbors down the street.
Servers are needed to scoop ice cream and put it into cones or a serving bowl and add the syrup of the resident’s choice: chocolate, caramel, or strawberry.
Hosts are needed to engage in conversation or offer to play board games, which will be on the tables, with the residents.
You may feel a little intimidated at the prospect of just striking up a conversation with someone you do not know. But fear not, you’ll find it easy and fun to show up as Divine for the residents of Pecan Hill with these few tips.
- Greet the person warmly, shake hands, and make eye contact.
- Make small talk. The weather is always a great topic in Texas.
- Ask questions. A great thing to ask about is the person’s occupation prior to retirement.
- Reminisce with them.
- Or ask what their favorite TV show is and why. Have they read any good books lately?
- Ask if they have grandchildren.
- Take it slow, be patient, and smile.
Believe it or not, a simple conversation has big benefits – for anyone. It’s a connecting experience that activates our powers of Divine Love, diminishing any sense of separation from Source, self, or others. Your willingness to chat and visit is a great act of Sacred Service. Sign up here to be a Server/Host.
We also need some supplies for this event to include cones, spoons, napkins, and ice cream syrup. Click here to register to bring items.
