Live Our Vision of a Spiritually Transformed, Peaceful World – Answer this Invitation from the Dialogue Institute
The Dialogue Institute has warmly invited the Unity of SA CommUNITY to join them for a Ramadan Fast-Breaking dinner on June 6, 2017, at the Raindrop Turkish House on 4337 Vance Jackson Rd #203, San Antonio, TX 78230 .
According to their website, “The Dialogue Institute of the Southwest (formerly known as the Institute of Interfaith Dialog) grew out of the need to address the question, “How can citizens of the world live in peace and harmony?” The Institute was established in 2002 as a 501-c-3 non-profit educational organization by Turkish-Americans and their friends.”
Ramadan occurs in the 9th month of the Islamic lunar calendar, which is the holiest. It is observed by all the Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, spirituality, prayers and charity. For 29 or 30 days depending on that year, Muslims fast each day from dawn to sunset. Fasting includes refraining from eating and drinking any liquid all day. The Fasting begins after a predawn meal at 5:00 a.m. They break their fast exactly at the time of sunset, with a dinner called an iftar dinner. It is a tradition both culturally and Islamic that the fast is broken with neighbors and friends every day.
The Dialogue Institute upholds this important tradition locally to build friendships and raise awareness of fasting, not only in Islam, but in all traditions. Last year the Dialogue Institute had a dinner each day of the month with different faith communities, churches, temples, synagogues, and Sikhs. It was a rewarding experience that resulted in more interactions throughout the year during Christmas and Passover.
The Dialogue Institute is looking forward to breaking bread with the Unity Church of San Antonio CommUNITY. The evening’s events will include:
7:30 p.m.: Arrival and Mingle
7:45 p.m.: Welcome by Raindrop Turkish House
8:00 p.m.: Prayer Area Tour
