Creating Summer Unity CommUNITY Connections!
Our last Summer of Sacred Service event is almost here!
Sunday, August 7, 2016, After Church – Road Trip to Visit the Veterans!
Don’t miss this opportunity to present homemade gifts made by our youth to the residents at Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville, TX. Because of their remote location, many of the residents don’t have an opportunity to connect with others in conversation. They don’t have as many friends or family come by as they might in a centrally located nursing home. You may be the only outside visitor a resident has all year. They’d love it if you came by, and thanked them for their service to our country. A simple question about their time in the service, what branch they served in, about their life, or even about the weather, can spark a chance for them to talk and be heard. So join us on a journey of Sacred Service with the simple act of listening to what someone has to say and providing a few hours of companionship.
Join Birdie Shawker on one of her frequent visits to this nursing home. Longtime Unity of SA member, and former member of our Board of Trustees, Brit Wells resides there. We’ll see him and some of the other residents as well. Plan to take your own car or carpool with a friend as we caravan on a mini road trip. After a quick stop at Zoe’s Kitchen for a Dutch Treat lunch, we will be on our way. Whether you already know Brit, or not, he will be thrilled with the company as will other veterans residing at this facility!
All ages may attend this as long as children are supervised by their families. Let us know you will attend, sign up here.
If you have questions about our Summer of Service, don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to connecting this summer in Sacred Service to the community with you!
