Jeffery Allen Spence, Director.
Jeff Spence began playing music professionally with the Bill Causey Big Band at the age of 15. He has toured all over the world, including playing Shea Stadium to 40,000 people, and he has orchestrated for Miss America Cheryl Prewitt Blackwood, whose CD “Rockin Louisiana Man” was released in Europe on BMG Records. Jeff studied jazz piano with many greats, including Ellis Marsalis, and he entertained in resorts and cruise ships internationally. He owns and operates Gratitude Road Recording studios in San Antonio, TX, and presents corporate seminars on Gratitude in the Workplace.
Giles Whitsett is an accomplished guitarist and singer/songwriter, performing uplifting, inspirational music. For more than thirty-five years, he has been featured in Unity churches, restaurants, and private parties.
David Groce is a singer, pianist, composer, and Native American flute player. A lifelong lover of music, he discovered a natural talent for singing as a child. In his late twenties, he walked away from a job in retail sales to study music full-time at San Antonio College. He currently provides music and sensory therapy for adults with intellectual disabilities. David and his wife Alli live in San Antonio, Texas.
Moses Olivo has fifty years’ experience in the music business, including fifteen years of music ministry. Aside from performing presently in the secular realm both locally and regionally in Texas, Mr. Olivo is principal percussionist (drum set) at Unity Church of San Antonio. His music performance experience spectrum ranges from popular dance covers and show lounge cabaret to musical theater and major concert/festival work. Among nationally recognized artists and groups, Mr. Olivo has had the good fortune to perform and tour with: Ben E. King (Stand By Me, Spanish Harlem); the Marvelettes (Please Mr. Postman); Mary Wells; Lola Falana; Della Reese; Lionel Hampton; and Tiny Tim, to name a few. Prior to Mr. Olivo’s recruitment into the music ministry program at Unity Church of San Antonio, he served 12 years in music ministry as principal percussionist at St. Paul AME United Methodist Church in San Antonio’s East side.
A San Antonio native who began playing at fifteen, Mike has built a reputation as a solid player who can easily switch from jazz to rock to blues and country with great flair. His positive professional manner has made him an asset to many different musical endeavors. He has played with Etta James, The Coasters, and Augie Myers, as well as at Fiesta Texas, NIOSA, and happy hours at the Hilton (Riverwalk). In addition, he fronts his own band. A member of the American Federation of Musicians Local #23, he is a consummate guitarist with a fun loving style that all enjoy. Mr. Fabulous (The Duke of Cool) aptly describes Mike and his expressive demeanor.
Buffalo Thunder (Frank Del Toro Jr) was born in San Antonio, Texas. He has been a professional musician for 20 plus years and is a semi-retired massage therapist. He plays percussion, first nation flute, and harmonica, and he sings!
Robbie Roberts Robbie plays bass for the Unity of SA music team. He’s played in a number of venues and has a background in bluegrass music. A retired EMT, Robbie has varied interests and has served in the Sacred Service area of the Grounds Team at Unity of SA.
