Lori Alspaugh, Office Manager, Unity of SA
I have had the privilege of working for and with Rev. Linda as the office manager at Unity of San Antonio for (almost!) nine years. I attended church here sporadically until I received a newsletter in July 2003 announcing the hiring of a new minister who had been raised as a Catholic and who had worked in the corporate world. I thought, “Wow! That’s just like me!” My partner Tara and I decided to attend the next Sunday.
On that Sunday, we were immediately surprised to be greeted by Rev. Linda enthusiastically. That had never happened before, so we were thrilled. As a member of a same-sex couple, I was used to blending into the woodwork at best, not being noticed and welcomed so warmly (especially in a church!). Much to my surprise, Rev. Linda remembered our names and greeted us again the next Sunday! Each week I could not wait to hear Rev. Linda’s message, which was always relevant, enlightened, and filled with humor.
I became a member as soon as I could and started volunteering as a member of the multimedia team. Over the years, I have used Rev. Linda’s guidance from Sunday messages, classes, and her two books to grow spiritually in ways I never dreamed possible.
I applied for the office manager position when it became available, and Rev. Linda hired me. She has been a mentor and a friend, helping me to gain confidence over the years with her constant support and guidance. She has also shared her wisdom and understanding when Tara and I became parents to our daughter Kaylee.
Another anniversary is another chance for us to realize how fortunate we are here at Unity of San Antonio to have Rev. Linda as our spiritual mentor. Thank you, Rev. Linda! Here’s to many more years of divine audacity!
