What would you say if I told you that you that every single one of you is in possession of remarkable traits and characteristics that you have access to each day, in each moment, to live a divine life and to bring light to the world around you? This is precisely the message that we have been proclaiming and leaning into in our Sunday School hour with our children and teens for the past two months.
Participants in Unity of San Antonio’s Youth Ministry program have spent the past two months exploring the 12 Powers – first identified as The Twelve Powers of Man by Unity co-founder, Charles Fillmore. These powers express a metaphysical look at twelve expressions of the divine power inherent in each of us. At UCSA, in our Youth Ministry program, we have entitled our study, “I’m Divine: What’s Your Super Power?”!
As we have explored the powers of Understanding, Will, Imagination, Zeal, Power, Love, Wisdom, Strength, Order, Release, and Life, we have not only given ample thought to how each expresses in our own lives, but we have also been considering the message we would like to share with our larger community – inside and outside the walls of our spiritual home. Our children and teens have been surrounded by each of these Powers and have absorbed the message of what it means to possess these abilities. Along the way, each week, they have also intently considered how they can best express the insights and wisdom bubbling up inside of them.
As adults in the world, we all too often find ourselves struggling with the role we play in life, our purpose, the meaning of life, the role of spirituality in our lives. Sound familiar? Well, guess what? Our children and teens have these exact same thoughts and needs. It is not uncommon to think of the categories we each fall into – baby, child, teenager, adult – and then to assume that these categories somehow differentiate us from one another. But, at the very basic, most important level, we truly are all “One”. We are all in this human life together – with its beauty, challenges, triumphs and hardships. Learning and growing are goals we all strive to reach, throughout our lives. And I am continually amazed by the breadth and depth of the grassroots, simple, uncomplicated wisdom expressed every Sunday by our caring, loving, talented, amazing children and teens of UCSA!
Your Youth and Family Ministry participants are very excited to share our study, thoughts, passion, knowledge and zest for life with our larger Unity of San Antonio family. On Sunday, July 30, our children and teens will take the helm of our 11:00 AM service – providing musical support, poetry, the Sunday talk message, social hosting support, greeter and usher team support, along with sound system and project planning support. This is a big day for us, and we absolutely cannot do it without you, our wonderful UCSA CommUNITY! Please make plans to join us for this thoughtful exploration – our presenters are pouring their hearts, souls, and coveted teenage free time into making this a beautiful day of sharing.
“We have all been teenagers. This period of life is a huge part of what it means to be human. We learn who we are and shape our identities in relation to others around us, peers, family and other role models.” Come join us on July 30 as we learn, side by side. Find a pearl of wisdom from a teen to take away with you. Be a role model that a child can look up to. Participate fully in this celebration of budding and flowering spirituality. Be the light – shine it, reflect it, share it.
Additional Note: Please plan to join us after the 11:00 AM service on July 30 for the social hour in the CommUNITY Center where we will celebrate all of our children and teens, and especially our graduating seniors, with food, fellowship, music, and cake!
