Rev. Jimmie Scott
A short time ago, I read an article by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson in which he put forth the idea that, “We humans aren’t as good as we should be in our capacity to empathize with feelings and thoughts of others.” Then he went on to say,
“Maybe part of our formal education should be training in empathy.”
At the time I first read it, I thought it was an interesting idea. But knowing how the educational system has become so bombarded by outside interference from so many different entities about curricula, my first thought was it’d be a tough sell.
Months later, our nation has been ravaged by so many school shootings and attempted school shooting that I can’t recall the number. We get agitated for a few weeks or months about them, and then it’s back to the business at hand. Maybe Mr. Tyson has a great idea. Think about it.
Peace, Rev. Jimmie
