Rev. Jimmie Scott
On a recent rare quiet day, I set aside some time to further explore some of the writings of Alfred North Whitehead. Whitehead apparently thought of himself as a natural philosopher. This statement attributed to him, is in fact, about himself. He said,
“The guiding motto in the life of every natural philosopher should be, seek simplicity and distrust it.”
This is a deep truth to that statement, as I interpret it. I understand it from a personal perspective. As much as I like to think that there is a well-defined formula for living simply, and as much as I like to think my life is simple – it rarely feels that way.
Maybe the answer is in the seeking. For when we follow the path that feels most right for us, and we prepare for the element of surprise by strengthening our faith, everything usually works out okay.
Just keep traveling, friends!
