Living Our Truth by Jennifer Gates, M.A.
In Unity, we honor the many names for God and the many paths to discovering God. We hold room within our minds and hearts for an expansive experience of our own spirituality – as an individual and as linked to all that surrounds us and uplifts us. Unity holds firm to the belief that each person can and does experience his or her own unique relationship to the Divine. And Unity Principles exist as markers along the way to help one build and maintain his or her course through a life of human-ness and divine-ness.
Five Basic Unity Principles
- God is all good and active in everything, everywhere
- I am naturally good because God’s divinity is in me and in everyone
- I create my experiences by what I choose to think and what I feel and believe
- Through affirmative prayer and meditation, I connect with God and bring out the good in my life
- I do and give my best by living the Truth I know. I make a difference!
It is through studying and embodying the Five Basic Unity Principles that we come to a fuller and more complete understanding of Unity’s belief system. These Principles allow us, as students of Unity, to explore what we know about God and what God means in our lives, what the Christ presence is all about, how our minds and the law of “mind action” functions in our world, how affirmative prayer feels and sounds, and what it means to live a Unity-based life in the world.
Whether you are new to Unity or have been immersed in Unity study and celebration for a number of years, examining the Basic Principles is a magnificent way to connect with your own Christ Consciousness and to enter the new year ahead with faith, understanding and wisdom. If you have made New Year resolutions – large or small – and are eager for a moral compass to keep you pointing to your own true north, studying the Basic Principles will provide a firm grounding for your spiritual growth.
Beginning on Sunday, January 8, our January Sunday Celebration messages will be based upon these Five Basic Principles, and a deeper understanding of and conversation around each week’s topic will be held on Tuesday evenings, at 7:00 PM, for four consecutive weeks, in the CommUNITY Center of our Unity Heights building. I invite you to join us for both of these weekly events.
Knowing that each of you is Divinely designed and here to be the Light of the World, I look forward to a deeper discussion of Unity’s core beliefs as we usher in a beautiful new year. Here’s to Living our Truth in 2017!
