Thank You to All Who Served!
We had a wonderful Christmas Celebration at Pecan Hill Apartments on Sunday, December 10,, 2017. Joined by our friends from the Awakening Spiritual Community, led by Rev. Erika Forbes-Wilson, we prepared and served Christmas dinner for the 114 residents of Pecan Hill Apartments, a residence for seniors with affordable housing needs. Rev. Jimmie Scott began our celebration with prayer just before the delicious meal we all shared. Each resident was given a gift certificate to HEB, a bag of homemade cookies, and an inspirational Christmas card. There were people who arrived early to set up, cooked part of the meal at home and brought it in, those who helped serve the meal, and of course, clean up. There were simply too many people to list here that helped. But we at Unity Church of San Antonio are profoundly grateful for each and every one that participated.
The Youth Ministry with its young people and dedicated adult volunteers led by Jennifer Phelps Gates played a special role. They baked dozens of cookies, packed them, and attached a Christmas card that was lovingly created by our Communications Team and Office Angels. In addition to helping serve our delicious Christmas meal, the children personally delivered meals with the Awakening Community to people who could not leave their apartments. Then our service-oriented young people placed a bag of cookies they worked so diligently preparing, on each door of every apartment. Way to go, and thank you so much to our wonderful youth department!
Many thanks to David Groce for providing the music throughout the day, joined by Birdie to lead Christmas Caroling. Most of all, great thanks goes to Mary Tisdale, who has organized this annual outreach at Unity of SA for over 20 years! We appreciate each and every person that contributed to this great day of Sacred Service and FUN!
