Unity of San Antonio is eagerly awaiting the arrival of our new minister, Rev. Jimmie Scott, and with him new growth and opportunity for all of us. So much work, prayer, meditation and preparation has gone into this decision. I know wonderful things are on the horizon!
Much of the preparation came about in and as a result of the series of guided workshops facilitated by Rev. Ron Fritts. Rev. Ron’s guidance through “Honoring Our Past and Creating Our Future” or HOPCOF and the sessions held to create our new Vision, Mission, and Core Values were invaluable to our community. In these workshops, many dedicated members of our community worked to sharpen and clarify what UCSA means to us, to our community, and to the world. We learned who we are and what we care most about. We also we began to form a vision for a bright and Spirit-led future.
Many things were discussed in these workshops. I am proud to say I saw much more listening and reflection, out of which have arisen several topics for closer consideration. We quickly agreed that Sacred Service was an important issue that needed to be addressed. We didn’t have time to properly manage the subject within the time allotted for our workshop. Committees were quickly formed to further investigate the issues that our community prioritized during HOPCOF.
I was invited to join the committee concerning Sacred Service (Volunteering) and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this very important aspect of our community. We soon found more questions than a committee of five could answer for our much larger UCSA (Unity Church of San Antonio) family. We began making lists and collecting as much information as possible. To name a few we asked… what programs depend on Sacred Service? How many Sacred Service opportunities are there? Who leads each team? How are volunteers trained? How are leaders trained? Do we have a system in place to track how many hours of service are given to our community? And perhaps most importantly, why do people volunteer?
With as many questions as we could answer or speculate about, we knew that we would need more help to truly ascertain the Sacred Service needs of UCSA. We need you! After weeks of development and revision we have created a quick survey for volunteers to complete in order to give us much needed information. This information will remain confidential and will only be used for the betterment of our church home and community. With the feedback we will receive from this survey we hope to determine not only our “volunteer needs” but what our volunteers need to feel supported, connected, appreciated, respected, and loved.
With your help we hope to honor all those who serve, connect with those who want to serve but haven’t found their place yet, and release in love those who have served and are ready to move on. Love is what drives this community and love is what will help us grow and learn and find our way to that bright future. The survey will be available this Sunday as you enter the sanctuary, and in the church office. Please take a few minutes to help us make UCSA stronger through service! Give your completed survey to an usher as you leave, or to Birdie at the Welcome Table after the service. Thank you so much.
