“Bitter or Better”
Rev. Jimmie Scott
To be alive is to be consistently reminded that life is full of surprises. So called “lower” forms of life seem to adapt and adjust to these “surprises” naturally. While we humans with our conscious awareness consistently struggle. Not only do we struggle, sometimes we actually appear to find a degree of satisfaction in struggling.
Many years ago, I counseled with a person who had been divorced from their partner for twenty years, and was remarried for six years. But they were still bitter about that first marriage. Go figure. I believed then, as I do now, that the moment we realize we are in control of how we approach the challenges, problems, and opportunities in our lives is the hallmark moment when we realize we can be as happy, healthy, and successful as we choose. Even in circumstances and conditions that are beyond our control, we can decide; bitter or better?
