YOUTH & FAMILY MINISTRY

OFFERING PROGRAMS FROM BIRTH TO AGE 18

WHAT'S BUZZIN?
YFM MONTHLY RECAP (01/25-02/25)

We hosted a regional Uniteen (middle school) and Y.O.U (high school) Winter Retreat in January for the first time since before covid.  It was a raging success!  We had over 44 participants stay on our property from Saturday - Monday on MLK weekend.  They came from Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Lousianna.

One of the kids told me they experienced their "best night ever in their life" during the retreat.  When I asked what made it the best night ever, they said they got to be themselves, and didn't get made fun of or bullied.  This is the gift of our program.  The kids and teens that come to our Youth and Family Ministry programs get to be themselves. Just as they are, and just as they are not.

And they get to experience being in an environment of acceptance and love.  It can be awesome and amazing.  It can also be overwhelming for them - but in a good way.  It creates miracles. It offers a space for kids to blossom into their highest potential, and teaches them to see that in others.

We were blessed to have a team that encouraged and supported our winter retreat.  I would especially like to thank Suzy Crowley, our Y.O.U. sponsor, for leading this event and creating such a special opportunity for our teens.

YFM TEAM UPDATES

I would like to thank Chris Poole for acting as one of our Family Greeters for the last few years.  He has been a great contributor to our YFM team.  Chris is being called into another role in our community.  If you are interested in supporting YFM as a greeter twice a month, please let me know.  We have a spot for one more.  Beth White is joining our YFM Team as a greeter and has already started training.  We are so blessed to have her on our team!  Welcome, Beth!

We have a very important role as UniTots Teacher (ages 3-5) open.  We can't wait to meet you!  If you love this age group and are interested in joining our team, please reach out to me right away!

YFM EVENTS

We will have our next family movie matinee in March.  Have a movie suggestion?  I want to hear it! Please come by and share it, or email it to me.

OUR APPROACH:
–    THE LIVING
       CURRICULUM

KEEPING YOUR KIDDOS SAFE For the safety and liability of our program, we perform criminal background checks on all volunteers who work with our youth. It is our policy to have 2 volunteers per classroom space (this includes travel and participation in regional events). Our Safety Team monitors the Unity Heights Building during the 11:00 a.m. youth classes. They are trained to question anyone who enters the building while classes are in session. Registration forms must be on file for all youth ministry participants and will be updated at the start of each school year. Please note we can only provide supervision of your child while they are checked into class. Otherwise, families must supervise, monitor, and be responsible for their child at all times while on campus. We ask that you please do so to ensure your child’s safety.

We believe, as our founder, Myrtle Fillmore did, that our mission as educators is not to entertain kids, but, instead, to draw them out. Moving past the idea that teachers have all the answers, we instead realize that all of us are uniquely unfolding on our spiritual paths, having equal access to the Spirit within.

Using storytelling and experiential creative expression, the Living Curriculum approach helps draw out the Truth inside of us we already know. This process helps to explore spiritual principles and to become aware of how those principles operate in our lives.
